WATERLOO PHARMACY & TRAVEL CLINIC
Vitamin B12 Injection Service
Clinically guided Vitamin B12 injections from Waterloo Pharmacy. Our service starts with a clinical assessment to check whether a B12 injection is appropriate for you.

Why is Vitamin B12 important?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can be associated with tiredness, weakness, changes in sensation, memory or concentration difficulties and anaemia. Symptoms can occur even without anaemia, so proper assessment is important.
Who may be at risk of B12 deficiency?
- People with low dietary B12 intake
- People with conditions affecting B12 absorption
- People with pernicious anaemia
- People who have had certain gastrointestinal conditions or surgery
- People taking some medicines, including long-term metformin or proton pump inhibitors
Your pharmacist will discuss your circumstances and advise whether further assessment or referral is needed.

Before your injection
During your consultation, we may discuss:
- Your symptoms and medical history
- Previous B12 results
- Your diet
- Medicines you take
- Previous B12 treatment
- Possible causes of deficiency
- Whether further testing or referral is appropriate
Important
A B12 injection is not a substitute for investigating unexplained symptoms.
If you have numbness, tingling, weakness, balance problems or other neurological symptoms, you may need further medical assessment.
How quickly will I feel a difference?
Hydroxocobalamin starts working straight away, but it can take days or weeks for symptoms to improve. How quickly you respond depends on the cause and severity of the deficiency.
Is the injection safe?
Hydroxocobalamin is an established treatment for vitamin B12 deficiency. As with any medicine or injection, side effects can occur.
- Pain, swelling or itching at the injection site
- Nausea or diarrhoea
- Headache or dizziness
- Skin reactions
Your pharmacist will discuss relevant risks with you before treatment.
